Scunthorpe United captain Cliff Byrne has received the all-clear to return to training after a setback in his bid to recover from a lengthy back injury.
The 29-year-old defender, who has been out since January, has been back in full training for several weeks.
He was then sent for a test on his nerves last week to check they are all functioning properly.
"The specialist told Cliff that, if anything, he is in front of where he should be," said Iron boss Alan Knill.
"When you're training among the other players, you are able to judge yourself.
"If you're working on your own it's difficult to judge how far in front or behind you are.
"We'll take it nice and slowly but hopefully he'll be playing in the not too distant future," Knill told BBC Radio Humberside.
The former Sunderland defender's last appearance came in a 2-1 home defeat by Watford on 3 January.
