Oxford United manager Chris Wilder has backed Deane Smalley to be a long-term success at the club despite a slow start for the U's.
The striker has yet to get on the scoresheet for his new club after making five League Two starts and playing in 10 games in total.
"Deane Smalley's a slow burner at the moment. We're very confident there's more to come from him," said Wilder.
"He's found it a little bit difficult. His confidence isn't great."
Despite not finding the back of the net so far Wilder says the former Oldham Athletic forward has the full support of his staff.
Wilder said: "He would have loved to have hit the ground running at his new club but he's still only a young lad.
"He will be given the time and the ability and the opportunity to be a really good player for this football club."
The U's will be looking to make it three consecutive wins on the road on Saturday as they face relegation threatened Hereford United.
