Shrewsbury needed an injury-time winner from Lionel Ainsworth to secure victory over spirited Barnet.
Matt Richards put the Shrews ahead from Terry Gornell's fine through-ball before Gornell got himself on the scoresheet from Ainsworth's cross.
The Bees hit back after the break as Ricky Holmes capitalised on poor defending before Mark Marshall levelled the scores with a fine 20-yard effort.
That looked to be it before Ainsworth poked home in the dying seconds.
