Toumani Diagouraga's late equaliser for Brentford denied Carlisle victory and moved the Bees up to seventh place.
David Clarkson swept Brentford into the lead after Jonathan Douglas' cushioned header from Adam Thompson's cross.
James Berrett levelled when he side-footed home following Liam Noble's header, before Clarkson steered Berrett's cross into his own net.
But Clarkson redeemed himself when he set up Diagouraga, who calmly finished from close range past Adam Collin.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Brentford boss Uwe Rosler told BBC London 94.9:
"I'm very, very happy. We have to be realistic - we played against a team who rested themselves all week.
"We were not physically and mentally 100%. But we did give 100%.
"We started well, got the first goal and then we got too long, too early."
