Ballymena United remain without a home win in this season's Carling Irish Premiership after Dungannon Swifts' Dermot McCaffrey hit a late equaliser in Saturday's clash.

Dungannon's Michael Ward blasted a 40th-minute penalty wide while Swifts' Stefan Lavery also had a first-half effort disallowed for offside.

Gary McCutcheon put Ballymena ahead on 48 with his 13th goal of the season.

However, McCaffrey levelled 10 minutes from time with a curling free-kick.

Jordan Baker and Allan Jenkins went close early on for Ballymena but Dungannon recovered to have the better of the opening period.

Lavery's 31st-minute effort was ruled out for offside much to the annoyance of Swifts manager Dixie Robinson.

Ballymena keeper Wayne Drummond made a good save to deny Ryan O'Neill while Ward struck his penalty wide after Aaron Stewart had fouled Craig McLean.

However, the Braidmen took the lead three minutes after the break as McCutcheon fired home after Dungannon had failed to clear a Conor Downey corner.

Jenkins and McCutcheon missed chances to extend Ballymena's lead and those misses proved expensive as McCaffrey levelled with his 19-yard free-kick 10 minutes from time.
