Wrexham manager Andy Morrell says the "ridiculous" Blue Square Premier fixture list that has left his squad "close to the bare bones".

The Dragons will play their sixth game in 18 days on Tuesday when they visit league leaders Gateshead.

Chris Maxwell, Chris Westwood and Lee Fowler are almost certain to miss out with injury, while top-scorer Jake Speight and Jamie Tolley are suspended.

"It's a ridiculous schedule we've been in," said interim manager Morrell.

"It just doesn't give the body time to recover. We're close to the bare bones so it's going to be tight with the numbers but we've got enough quality in our squad to take a team to Gateshead and do alright."

Both Speight, who scored the winner in Wrexham's win over Ebbsfleet, and Tolley picked up their fifth booking of the season on Saturday, triggering a one-match ban.

Midfielder Nat Knight-Percival returns from a ban, but centre back Westwood is out with a hamstring strain, while goalkeeper Maxwell (groin) and midfielder Fowler (knee) face late fitness tests.

"I'm going to give them as long as I can before deciding if I'm going to take any of them with us," added Morrell, who will take youth team players Steve Tomassen and Jay Colbeck to Gatshead.

"I think Westy [Westwood] is a definite no, but the other two maybe have a chance."
