Lincoln City midfielder Jean-Francois Christophe says he is delighted by his return to English football, after an unhappy spell in his native France.

Christophe, who played under Imps boss Steve Tilson at Southend, spent last season in the French fourth division.

"I didn't enjoy it, it was like I was in jail," he told BBC Lincolnshire.

"I said to myself, keep playing and as soon as there's the possibility to come back, do it. When the manager asked if I wanted to come back I said yes."

Christophe, one of three Frenchmen at the Blue Square Bet Premier club, left Southend in the summer of 2010 but after a move to another English club failed to materialise he returned to French football with fourth-tier side Compiegne.

"England is the best place to play football," he said. "In the French fourth division the crowd is only 200 or 300 but here it's 2,000.

"I was in France and I wanted to come back and Steve Tilson gave me the opportunity."
