Torquay boss impressed by Damon Lathrope impact

Lathrope has yet to score a goal in 32 appearances for Torquay

Torquay United manager Martin Ling has praised the recent impact of midfielder Damon Lathrope.

The 21-year-old has started the last three games for the Gulls and his impact has been valued by his manager.

"He fetches a little bit of calmness around us," Ling told BBC Radio Devon about the former Norwich City trainee.

"He's got a good passing range, he understands the game defensively and tactically. His chance has come along and he's grabbed it with both hands."

And Ling says Lathrope is one of the main reasons why skipper Lee Mansell has scored five goals so far this season.

"When we play one central striker and two wider strikers the midfield players have got to join quickly, and I think Manse and (Eunan) O'Kane can do that and Lathrope allows them to do that.

"Manse is our fittest player and he goes box to box. With Damon sitting behind him it takes off a bit of that defensive responsibility in his head," he added.
