Derry City kept their Airtricity League title hopes alive as they defeated Dundalk at Oriel Park.

Eamon Zayed headed dominant Derry into the lead on 13 minutes as he connected with a Daniel Lafferty cross.

Dundalk improved after the break and Chris Reilly and Stephen O'Donnell tested Derry keeper Gerard Doherty.

However, Stephen McLaughlin hit the Dundalk woodwork on 84 minutes and his corner a minute later was headed to the net by Lafferty.

The victory left Derry four points behind Sligo Rovers - and with two games in hand - after the leaders suffered a 1-0 defeat against St Patrick's Athletic on Saturday.

Derry remain third in the table with defending champions Shamrock Rovers two points behind Sligo - and with two games in hand.

Shamrock Rovers are away to Bray on Sunday.
