Hereford recorded just their second league victory this season against fellow strugglers Bradford City.
Craig Fagan and Michael Flynn both went close for the Bantams before Steven Leslie hit the crossbar for the hosts in an even first half.
The game turned when Flynn saw red for a second bookable offence for a foul on Harry Pell, Leslie firing home the resulting free-kick.
Tom Barkhuizen made the points safe from close range.

Hereford director of football Gary Peters told BBC Hereford & Worcester:
"The fans were superb. If they see 11 players out on the park and every one of them is giving everything they have got, then supporters will accept performances which aren't brilliant.
"We just kept at it and kept at it and wore them down. They broke in the end, so we have got a win.
"The supporters have had some bad times at home in recent weeks, and you have to get them feeling they are coming out to enjoy themselves, rather than coming out to walk home disappointed."
Bradford City manager Phil Parkinson told BBC Radio Leeds:
"The sending off killed us. It was heading towards a nil-nil. It was a scrappy game and we had some good moments in the first half.
"I thought we were just going to see the game through in terms of making sure we got that point, and [Michael] Flynn let us down. He's a good player but he was on four bookings already. There was no need to do it and its cost us the game.
"It was a scrappy affair. The ball wasn't moving quickly and we didn't produce the football I know we can."
