World Cup quarter-finalists Ghana booked their place at January's Africa Cup of Nations final when winning 2-0 against Sudan in Khartoum.
Sudan's first defeat of the Group I campaign means they are sweating on one of the two best runners-up spots.
First-half goals from Asamoah Gyan and John Mensah gave the Black Stars control.
However, Isaac Vorsah's second-half dismissal for kicking out at an opponent ensured a nervy finish.
Gyan opened the scoring when he headed home a free-kick after just 10 minutes, with the Black Stars' second coming 10 minutes later as Mensah fired home from close range.
The Black Stars thus went through the group unbeaten, winning five and drawing one.
After six rounds, Ghana finished with 16 points in the group, three more than Sudan.
In the day's other game, Congo won 1-0 away to Swaziland.
Loris Nkolo grabbed the only goal after 47 minutes to give the Congolese a double over Swaziland.
