Crewe's record of conceding late goals has been described as "ridiculous" by midfielder Ashley Westwood.

The Alex conceded twice in the last three minutes of their 3-1 home defeat against League Two leaders Southend.

Dario Gradi's side also threw away winning positions in their previous two games against Port Vale and Dagenham.

"Three minutes left and you concede two goals, it's ridiculous," Westwood told BBC Radio Stoke. "It's the same week in, week out and we need to sort it."

Defeat on Saturday leaves the Alex in the bottom six of League Two, having taken just one point from the last three games.

"That's why we are where we are," added Westwood, who at the age of 21 is one of the most experienced players in the first-team squad.

"We're young lads and we're still learning. We need the fans to stick by us because we've got a group of lads with unbelievable ability.

"Everyone needs to rally around together and I'm sure it will come right soon."

The Alex travel to high-flying AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

Meanwhile, defender Richard Hinds is likely to play for Crewe in a reserve game against Everton on Tuesday, as he bids to earn a contract with the club.

The former Scunthorpe and Sheffield Wednesday defender was on trial at Gresty Road in August and returned for a second trial spell on Friday.
