Northampton Town striker Adebayo Akinfenwa looks set to spend two weeks out after he suffered a fractured jaw.
The 29-year-old, who has five goals so far this season, picked up the injury in the 1-0 defeat by Crawley.
Manager Gary Johnson said: "Originally we thought he was going to be out for around six weeks so the news is a bit better than we first feared.
"It's not ideal but we just have to deal with it and it gives someone else the chance to come in."
"Obviously it's disappointing but hopefully he will only be out for a couple of weeks," added Johnson.
"We have been looking at several options and we will do what we feel is best for the club and the team, starting at Port Vale on Friday night."
