Republic of Ireland seeded for Euro 2012 play-offs

The Republic of Ireland have been seeded for Thursday's Euro 2012 play-off draw, Uefa has announced.

It means they will face one of Turkey, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Estonia or Montenegro in a two-legged tie to reach the tournament next summer.

Portugal, Croatia and the Czech Republic were the other three teams seeded by Uefa because of their national team coefficients.

The draw takes place in Krakow ahead of the tournament in Poland and Ukraine.

Seeded teams will no longer be guaranteed the second leg at home.

That rule was scrapped after the Republic's controversial defeat to France in the 2010 World Cup play-off so the home and away dates will also be decided by the luck of the draw.

The first leg of the play-offs will be played on 11 and 12 November, with the return legs on 15 November.

Already through to the finals, alongside co-hosts Poland and Ukraine, are Spain, Germany, Russia, Italy, France, Holland, Greece, England, Denmark and Sweden.

The finals draw is on 2 December in Kiev and the tournament runs from 8 June until 1 July next year at eight venues.
