The Football Association of Wales are in talks with a number of associations about a high profile friendly in November, BBC Wales understands.
France are believed to be among the countries the FAW have held discussions with about a 12 November fixture.
Manager Gary Speed is keen to arrange a friendly next month after Wales' 1-0 win in Bulgaria.
"We've got people in mind so hopefully we can play some quality opposition in November," he said.
Wales finished fourth in their Euro 2012 qualifying group following three wins from their final four games.
Speed's attention will now turn towards preparations for the 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign, which starts next September.
Wales have been drawn in Group A along with Croatia, Serbia, Belgium, Scotland and Macedonia.
Serbia face a rebuidling process ahead of those qualifiers after talisman Dejan Stankovic announced his international retirement, and centre-back Nemanja Vidic, 29, has revealed he is considering following suit.
