Watford lacked tempo - Adrian Mariappa

Watford defender Adrian Mariappa says his side lacked tempo in the 2-0 home defeat by Crystal Palace.

The Hornets are two points outside the relegation zone after just one win in their last five matches.

"We're not happy with the way we performed. We didn't have our normal high tempo," Mariappa told BBC Three Counties Radio.

"When we're at home we have to move the ball around quickly and really take the game to them."

He added: "We were flat today and I don't know why. That's the disappointing thing."

The Hornets now face trips to promotion chasing Leicester and Hull and the 25-year-old is hopeful the side can turn their fortunes around.

"We're going to go into these games as underdogs but it's a chance for us to play with some freedom and cause some upsets.

"They're both massive teams so if we can use being unfancied to our advantage then we will do."
