Dumbarton 2-1 Albion Rovers

Scottish Football League

Dumbarton moved five points clear of Albion Rovers at the bottom of the Second Division table with a narrow victory at Strathclyde Homes Stadium.

Rovers had conceded 14 times in their four away games in the league this season and they were behind when midfielder Ross McKinnon applied the finishing touch to James Creaney's probing cross in the 13th minute.

The Sons doubled their advantage early in the second half after midfielder Scott Agnew netted for the fifth time this season.

Mark Gilhaney rolled the ball across to Agnew on the edge of the penalty box and his rising drive sailed into the top corner of the net.

The visitors grabbed a consolation 17 minutes later when Steven Lawless smashed in a volley from 12 yards out.

However, the Coatbridge side could not find an equaliser and are four points adrift of second bottom Brechin City as Dumbarton moved up to seventh.
