Trialist Joe Sise has missed out on winning a permanent contract with Rangers, the club have confirmed.

The Swedish striker is out of contract with Halmstad, who have been relegated from Sweden's top flight.

German club Hansa Rostock have also expressed an interest in Sise, who has has been capped by Sweden Under-21s.

"Sise did reasonably well and showed some decent touches, but manager Ally McCoist has decided that he will not progress the matter," said Rangers.

"Sise had been on a training and match trial with the Light Blues after some favourable reports on his performances in the Swedish league.

"The giant striker trained with the top team at Murray Park and then featured in a closed-door game on Tuesday."

McCoist had previously indicated that he was looking to strengthen his forward line and has since .

"We feel we are strong in other areas and I just feel we can be caught short up front," McCoist had told the club's webite.

"So if we could strengthen that area then I would be happy to do so."
