Kettering Town have signed ex-Crystal Palace and Lincoln City defender Moses Swaibu on non-contract terms.
The 22-year-old played 61 games for the Imps prior to his release last season, and had a trial at Dagenham & Redbridge during the summer.
Boss Mark Stimson told BBC Radio Northampton: "I know him from coaching at Dagenham and I know what he can do.
"He was close to getting a contract at Dagenham. He's got good pace and he's looking forward to the challenge."
Stimson added: "I'm hoping we can turn the non-contract terms into something permanent."
With centre-halves Nathan Koo-Boothe and Jerel Ifil currently suspended, and John Dempster and George Taft having returned to parent clubs Crawley Town and Leicester City respectively, Swaibu will provide much needed cover in defence.
He is available for the FA Cup fourth qualifying round match against Southend Manor on Saturday.
