Morecambe's Nick Fenton scored a dramatic equaliser late in injury-time to deny lowly Plymouth a rare victory.
The Pilgrims, who have only won two league matches this season, went ahead in spectacular style when Simon Walton powerfully volleyed home from 25 yards.
Shrimps striker Kevin Ellison nearly equalised but was twice denied by Plymouth goalkeeper Romain Larrieu and also hit the post with a volley.
But Fenton levelled late on for the visitors, firing high into the net.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Plymouth Argyle manager Carl Fletcher told BBC Radio Devon:
"Everything's a competition and winning is everything and that's what we expect. But everyone worked their socks off today and worked well as a team.
"It was a good strike from Wilkes. We kept the ball well which I was pleased with and we are trying to improve when we have possession.
"He (Paul Bignot) settled in lovely. He looked like he played for years and years. I was pleased. He came in and all the lads are of similar ages and made him feel welcome and you can see that in the way he played."
