Rotherham recorded a first win in 10 at the expense of Aldershot.
The Millers took the lead when Shots keeper Ross Worner spilled Gareth Evans' 30-yard free-kick to Lewis Grabban, who tapped home.
Chris Holroyd glanced home another Evans free-kick to double the lead before the break.
After 54 minutes Worner was sent off for clattering Alex Revell and, with no custodian on the bench, midfielder Jamie Collins took the gloves.
The 27-year-old summer signing even made a great save to deny Holroyd a second but it made little difference in the end.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Rotherham boss Andy Scott told BBC Radio Sheffield:
"I think a lot of the performances before this have merited a win, we just haven't got it and the longer that goes on it becomes harder.
"It wasn't pretty for the whole of the 90 minutes today, but we got the job done and we got a clean sheet and so they've worked extremely hard.
"Staff, players, everyone has been desperate to do well and it shows with the players that have been out of the side and come in and prove that they want a place in the first team and prove their worth to the side."
