The trophy cabinet was initially listed with the option to buy it for £50

Cambridge United's trophy cabinet has been put up for auction to raise money for the club's supporter group.

The item is listed on auction website eBayexternal-link, where it is described as "a quality piece of furniture which would look great in anyone's home".

The seller adds: "On top of that you will be owning a piece of unique sporting history."

Cambridge's trophies, which include old Division Three and Four titles, are not included with the sale.

The "solid oak" piece of furniture, which is being removed from the Abbey Stadium boardroom in preparation for redevelopment, has housed accolades from the side's youth team's achievements, memorabilia from international matches played at the ground and an award for serving "the best bacon sandwich" in English football.

Proceeds will go to Cambridge Fans United (CFU) and adult skills organisation the Rowan Humberstone Charity.

John Bilboa from CFU told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "The club have been renovating the board room and were thinking of just putting the cabinet in a skip.

"I offered to put it on eBay with the aim of just getting a few pounds. Hopefully we'll find a good home for it."
