Tranmere forward Adam McGurk believes his side have found the right balance between defence and attack.
Rovers are seventh in League One and have won four of their last five games.
"We know nine times out of 10 we're going to score, so if we can stay solid at the back we'll get good results," McGurk told BBC Radio Merseyside.
"We were unlucky not to win at Charlton and we were narrowly beaten at Preston and they're top teams. Confidence is high and we're confident as a unit."
Tranmere play mid-table Colchester at Prenton Park on Saturday and will hope to regain their defensive solidity after the 4-2 defeat at Scunthorpe last week.
Rovers won the same fixture 1-0 last season, and McGurk says a similar result would be a big boost to their play-off hopes.
"I think Colchester will be at the right end of the table this year," McGurk continued.
"They're a good team but these are the games we're going to have to win if we are going to be in and around the play-offs this season. I know everyone will give 100% and hopefully we can claim three points."
