Albion Rovers 7-2 Airdrie United

Scottish Football League

Scott Chaplain scored a hat-trick and John Gemmell and Michael O'Byrne both fired doubles as Albion Rovers thrashed Airdrie United.

Chaplain's header put the hosts ahead on 13 minutes but Jamie Stevenson's drilled shot levelled matters 10 minutes later.

However, Chaplain's overhead kick put Rovers back into the lead and O'Byrne nodded the Cliftonhill side into a 3-1 half-time lead.

Gemmell's first on 56 minutes was a close-range effort and he followed that up with a 35-yard strike five minutes later.

In between times, Airdrie's Graeme Owens had a penalty saved by Derek Gaston after Anthony Stevenson had fouled Ryan Donnelly.

But Owens was successful with his next spot-kick, awarded after Alan Reid's foul on Donnelly.

Airdrie's David Lilley was then sent off for a second bookable offence.

Chaplain completed his treble with a tap-in and a long-range effort from O'Byrne completed the scoring.
