Maidenhead Utd 1-1 Aldershot

FA Cup

Substitute Michael Rankine's late goal ensured Aldershot remain in the FA Cup as they drew with Blue Square Bet South side Maidenhead United.

Anthony Thomas put the hosts in front after a quickly taken free-kick was played short to him and he curled the ball in from the edge of the area.

Ashan Holgate should have doubled the lead but he stumbled when one-on-one with Shots keeper Jamie Young.

Rankine then tapped in from close range to force the replay.

VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

Aldershot manager Dean Holdsworth told BBC Surrey:

"Typical romance of the FA Cup. One shot and then you think 'are we going to be that victim?' But I'm delighted with the response, two subs, Rodman crosses and Rankine scores.

"Give Maidenhead their credit, they got their backs right behind the ball. But I'm delighted we're in the [draw for the] next round. We'll take them back to our place and look to progress.

"They couldn't get any more people going down with cramp, could they? It's a boxing match isn't it and they've got a puncher's chance. But I'm glad we got back into the game, and we'll move on now."
