Torquay United midfielder Ian Morris has stepped up his rehabilitation from a knee injury after playing almost all of a reserve team fixture.
The 24-year-old Irishman scored a goal and lasted 88 minutes of the Gulls second-string's 3-2 defeat by Brighton.
The appearance came just a month after Morris was initally ruled out until December after having a knee operation.
"Ian's done really well in training and come back a lot quicker than expected," manager Martin Ling told BBC Devon.
And Morris is likely to feature against his former club Chesterfield in the FA Cup first round on Saturday.
Ling will be forced to make a change to the side with Billy Bodin away on international duty with Wales Under-21s.
"Ian will be in the 18 and if he does well he may well be in the first 11," Ling said.
