Craven attended a hearing at Hampden on Wednesday to appeal against his ban

Referee Steven Craven's appeal against a lifetime ban has been rejected by the Scottish Football Association.

The former top-flight asisstant referee resigned following his involvement in a match at Tannadice last season.

Referee Dougie McDonald overturned a penalty awarded to Celtic against Dundee United and Craven resigned over his part in the incident.

He was barred from officiating matches by the Glasgow Referee's Association, a decision that was upheld at Hampden.

Following the hearing, Craven's lawyer insisted that the ban was disproportionate and that his client will now explore his options.
