Blyth Spartans have released striker Richard Offiong, although the player will continue to train with Steve Cuggy's side until he finds a new club.

The 27-year-old joined Spartans at the end of September, and has made six appearances but failed to find the net for the Blue Square Bet North outfit.

"I have four forwards at the club now and I can't guarantee Richard a game," boss Steve Cuggy told the club websiteexternal-link.

"Losing a striker means I can look to strengthen other areas of the squad."

Cuggy added: "Richard needs matches under his belt."

Offiong's first-team opportunities have been limited by the , who netted three times to help Blyth to the first round of the FA Cup before .

"Jamie Mole is a class act and Graeme Armstrong is a proven striker, then we have Glen Taylor coming on well," Cuggy said.

"Richard leaves us on amicable terms and he will continue to train with the team so we haven't burned all our bridges."

The well-travelled forward joined Blyth after a spell playing in Australia, and also lists Hamilton Academicals, Carlisle United and Darlington among his former clubs.
