Joint manager Lee Canoville felt Boston United played their best football this season in their 2-0 defeat by Blue Square Bet North leaders Hyde.
Shelton Payne put Hyde in front two minutes into the second half with Danny Broadbent making it 2-0 on 70 minutes.
Canoville told BBC Lincolnshire: "I'm disappointed we didn't respond better to their goal but the first 45 minutes was the best we've played all season.
"Our gameplan worked in the first half but their first goal deflated us."
Boston had several chances in the first half with the Pilgrims' main threat coming from Marc Newsham who also had a second-half effort ruled out for offside.
"We have to take the positives," added Canoville. "But when we're on top in games we need to get a goal.
"Hyde are a good side and when they went 1-0 up their confidence grew."
