Bondz N'Gala scored the only goal of the game as Yeovil recorded a vital win at Hartlepool.
Andy Monkhouse came desperately close to giving the hosts the lead but his fierce volley from outside the area crashed back off the crossbar.
N'Gala put the Glovers ahead when he headed home Ed Upson's corner.
Visiting striker Andy Williams had an effort ruled out for offside before Nathan Luscombe's shot hit the woodwork for Pools in injury-time.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Hartlepool United head coach Mick Wadsworth told BBC Tees:
"In all my time in football I've never known such a stark contrast from the same set of players in performances away and at home.
"I take responsibility for that, we as a group have to take responsibility, the players have to and my staff have to, because the fans deserve better.
"Our endeavour was good, but we need better quality, we leak a stupid goal and we don't stay in the game."
