Fleetwood missed the chance to go top of the Blue Square Bet Premier table and had settle for a draw at Gateshead.

The hosts went ahead as Martin Brittain slotted a right-footed finish past goalkeeper Scott Davies following a Craig Baxter through-ball.

Jamie Vardy's 14th goal of the season brought Fleetwood level as he swept home from close range.

Cod Army substitute Magno Vieira had a chance to win the game but saw his right-footed shot saved by Jak Alnwick.

Fleetwood stay second on goal difference, level on points with leaders Wrexham,

Gateshead are a point adrift of the Blue Square Bet Premier play-off places in seventh.

Gateshead boss tips Fleetwood for success

Gateshead manager Ian Bogie told BBC Newcastle:

"We can't be too disappointed in holding what I believe are the champions elect in this division.

"They're a very good side. They've got strength in depth in numbers in what they're bringing off the bench.

"They've got some terrific players coming off the bench, some smashing players at this level. We've got to be pleased with the point."
