Reading lack cutting edge, says Brian McDermott

Reading boss Brian McDermott says his side are lacking a cutting edge, after their 2-1 loss to Cardiff on Saturday.

Defeat left the Royals in 14th place in the Championship, six points off the play-off places and five away from the relegation zone.

"We need a cutting edge, and that's what we are working on in training," McDermott told BBC Radio Berkshire.

"We lost Shane Long in the summer. I noticed he scored the winner for West Brom and we miss him. Any team would."

McDermott also said the 2-1 scoreline flattered Cardiff, adding: "That defeat is tough to take.

"All we can do is move on, work hard. This team are young and learning."
