Tranmere captain John Welsh has backed his team to bounce back from their 2-1 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday as they play Exeter this Saturday.

Rovers are eighth in League One and without a win in their last five games.

Welsh told BBC Radio Merseyside: "We've got a good group of lads who'll get round and cheer each other up.

"We just need to keep playing the way we are and get something from the game at Exeter. They're a good side, so it should be a good footballing game."

Welsh believes Tranmere have a great chance of collecting a win at St James Park, with the creativity that both Jose Baxter and Andy Robinson bring to the starting line-up.

"You're going to play good football if you have Jose and Andy in the midfield," said the former Liverpool midfielder.

"You just need to get them on the ball and let them do what they do best. Robbie Weir was all over the pitch against Sheffield Wednesday. He was running past me tackling, heading, passing and shooting.

"We've got to take the positives from the defeat to Sheffield Wednesday and get the confidence up for next week."
