Newport County leapfrogged fellow Blue Square Bet Premier strugglers Lincoln City with a hard-fought victory at Spytty Park.
Ismail Yakubu gave County a first-half lead by firing home inside the six-yard box from Sam Foley's dangerous cross.
The Imps pushed for an equaliser in the second half but found County goalkeeper Danny Potter in inspired form.
He kept out efforts from Jake Sheridan and Luke Medley to help his side secure a vital three points.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Newport County manager Justin Edinburgh told BBC Radio Wales:
"We threw some bodies on the line there today and it's just nice to be leaving here on a Saturday with a victory.
"These last two victories have been vital and puts us in a healthier position than we were last week.
"We were thoroughly professional from start to finish today and that was really pleasing. We adapted very well to the conditions."
Lincoln City manager David Holdsworth told BBC Lincolnshire:
"The pitch was awful and Justin [Edinburgh] told me before the game about it, but you have to deal with it and I felt we played the conditions very well.
"We dominated 70% of the game so I'm pleased with the effort and the way we went about it.
"We came here and set up right and they haven't really undone us at all but one slip in the final third has cost us and really it was the only thing Newport contributed to the game."
