Zimbabwean champions Dynamos have chosen to play in next year's Champions League despite the financial drawbacks.

The 1998 Champions League runners-up and 2008 semi-finalists won their 19th domestic championship on 20 November.

The club have struggled financially in the Champions League in the past but could have had their expenses paid had they entered the Confederation Cup.

Dynamos won the country's cup final on Sunday, beating Motor Action.

The cup competition - called the Mbada Diamonds Cup - is sponsored by a diamond mining company and is the country's richest-ever tournament, with $1m in prize money.

The winners qualify for the Confederation Cup and had been offered assistance of $150,000 by the sponsors.

Dynamos' most difficult Champions League campaign was in 2008 when the country was in the grip of hyperinflation and foreign currency shortages.

But they were the surprise team of the tournament, reaching the last four.

They narrowly missed out on a place in the group stage of this year's Champions League, losing on away goals to MC Alger of Algeria in a tie that ended 4-4 on aggregate.
