Macclesfield goalkeeper Jose Veiga produced a string of fine saves to secure a goalless draw with Gillingham.
Matthew Hamshaw and George Donnelly had early chances for the hosts before Veiga was on hand to turn Danny Kedwell's arrowing shot away.
Andy Frampton headed Sean Brisley's effort off the line at the other end before the interval.
Veiga was tested twice more by Curtis Weston's fierce volley and Danny Jackman powerful drive from 25 yards.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Macclesfield manager Gary Simpson told BBC Radio Manchester:
"I was just praying today that Diagne didn't get booked because he'd have been suspended in the week.
"We've got a couple of players there that are playing with knocks that may require surgery before the season's out.
"We'll probably have to put kids on the bench in the week, because we can't fill it."
Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler told BBC Radio Kent:
"I'm a little bit disappointed we haven't won the game. First 15 minutes of the second half it looked like we were going to score any time.
"Over the 90 minutes we were the better team.
"We defended very, very well, it didn't look like we were going to concede. The only real criticism is that we had a lot of the ball. Our final ball in the last third was lacking a little bit."
