Southampton are waiting on the news of a hip injury to Rickie Lambert who has scored 14 goals this season.
Fellow striker David Connolly is still out with a groin problem and Richard Chaplow, Radhi Jaidi (both knee), and Dan Seabourne (head) remain sidelined.
Blackpool's Keith Southern faces a spell on the sidelines after undergoing surgery to remove a tumour.
Alex Baptiste is still out with a hamstring injury and Elliot Grandin is back in training after foot surgery.
•Southampton have won 17 and lost 16 of the 40 league matches against Blackpool.
•Southampton knocked Blackpool out of the FA Cup last season, but have not beaten them in the league since November 2007.
•The Lancashire club have only registered two away league victories over Saints; 5-1 in the top-flight in December 1966, and 1-0 in their most recent league match at St Mary's, in August 2008.
•Leaders Southampton, who've lost two of their last three, are defending a 100% home league record of 10 wins out of 10, and are chasing a club record 20th successive league victory at St Mary's, and 22nd in all competitions.
•If Saints win, and West Ham fail to do so at Reading, the Hampshire club will go into Christmas leading the Championship. The club topping the table on 25 December has gone on to win promotion in five of the last six seasons.
•They are the only club with a 100% record from Championship games in which they have opened the scoring; won all 11.
•Blackpool lie two places and three points outside the play-offs, looking for successive league victories, and only their third win away from home.
•They share Southampton's boast of a 100% return from Championship matches in which clean sheets have been kept; both have won all six games.
•The Seasiders also match West Ham's total of 14 different scorers of their Championship goals.
