Barnsley's Serbian midfielder Goran Lovre has left the in-form Championship club by mutual consent.

Lovre joined the Tykes from Dutch club FC Groningen in the summer of 2010, scoring twice in 23 appearances last season.

But he has not featured this term and, with his contract due to expire in the summer, he has opted to go now.

Meanwhile, teenage defender John Stones has signed his first professional contract with the at the club.

Stones, who has been in good form for Barnsley's under-18s this season, has put pen to paper on a deal until the summer of 2013.

Barnsley currently stand eighth in the Championship under Keith Hill, having won five of their last six matches.
