Annan Athletic 2-1 Montrose

Scottish Football League

Ten-man Annan held on for a morale-boosting 2-1 win at home to Montrose to remain top of the Third Division.

The Galabankies went into the game on the back of two successive league defeats, with manager Harry Cairney urging his side to get their title challenge back on track.

And he would have been delighted to see Sean O'Connor give Annan the lead with a low drive into the bottom corner of the net after 33 minutes.

O'Connor doubled their advantage two minutes later when he rifled the ball home from the edge of the area.

Montrose were given a lifeline when Aaron Muirhead was shown a straight red for a foul on Martin Boyle in the penalty box.

Jamie winter smashed the ball home to set up a nervy finish, but the home side held on.
