Women's football: Sunderland beat Leeds to go top of table

Sophie Williams and Natalie Gutteridge were on target as Sunderland beat Leeds United 2-0 in their Women's Premier League top of the table clash.

The victory ended Leeds's 100% away record and sent the Black Cats back to the top on goal difference.

Kit Graham, 16, hit her first senior goal to give Charlton Athletic a 1-0 win at Watford.

Cardiff beat Reading 3-0 while games at Nottingham Forest and Coventry were postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

Sunderland 2-0 Leeds United

Two early goals set Sunderland on the way to a hard-fought victory that completed the double over their title rivals.

Sophie Williams grabbed the 13th-minute opener, driving into the penalty area to score from 12 yards.

And 60 seconds later Natalie Gutteridge doubled the lead with a shot that ricocheted off the legs of a defender to hit the net.

Leeds hit back and had plenty of possession, but Sunderland had the better of the chances and Beth Mead almost got a third goal with a late effort that went just wide.

Watford 0-1 Charlton Athletic

Graham opened her first-team account on the half-hour, shooting home from a Gemma Bryan free-kick.

Sarah Wiltshire was desperately unlucky not to equalise seven minutes later, when her shot rebounded off both posts before it was cleared.

But, after the break, the visitors twice went close to stretching their lead, Bryan and Liz Gibbons both having efforts that came back off the crossbar.

Cardiff City 3-0 Reading

After a blank first half, Cardiff swept to a clear-cut victory. Nicola Cousins started the goal rush direct from a free-kick a minute into the second period.

Four minutes later, Lauren Price's shot-cum-cross landed in the corner of the net, and Zoe Atkins completed the scoring with a header from Cousins's 68th-minute free-kick.
