Roberts shocked by Verheijen's comments
- From the section Football
Former Wales striker Iwan Roberts has told Radio 5 live Breakfast that the Wales assistant coach Raymond Verheijen's comments about wanting to lead Wales to the World Cup in Brazil, and that it would have been Gary Speed's wish, are "really insensitive".
Verheijen was Speed's number two and said on Twitter that there is "no need for a new manager with new ideas."
Roberts says the comments absolutely shocked him and "left a bad taste in my mouth". Verheijen has since told Radio 5 live he did not say he wanted the Wales job.
The Wales Football Association has said the topic of national team manager will not be on the agenda at a meeting planned for Monday.
