James Poole's early goal was enough to give managerless Hartlepool victory at Oldham Athletic.
Poole struck after just seven minutes when he turned in Anthony Sweeney's left-wing delivery.
Sweeney then saw his powerful drive hit the crossbar, before Latics forward Tom Adeyemi shot just wide.
Oldham then had a great chance to draw level late on but Dean Furman's effort was saved by Scott Flinders to give Hartlepool the win.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Oldham Athletic manager Paul Dickov told BBC Radio Manchester:
"I feel as if we've got a good squad here and if any changes need to be made then the players should have still done better than they did today.
"I know they scored when Jim Wesolowski was off the pitch, but that wasn't down to us being a man down.
"There will definitely be changes. There was going to be changes for the Notts County game before today but there might be a few more now."
Hartlepool interim manager Micky Barron told BBC Tees:
"I can't explain it. Sometimes, away from home, teams come and attack us and we can counter-attack them with the players we have, so maybe that's the difference.
"It's hard to work out because, if we have had any decent home form, we'd be right up there at the top of the league."
