Derry City defender Stewart Greacen is on the verge of signing for Irish League club Glentoran.
The 29-year-old former Morton skipper, who is based in Scotland, said he had agreed terms with the Glens and hoped to complete the deal within 48 hours.
Derry City supporters voted Greacen as their best player of 2011.
"Glentoran have agreed I can train in Scotland and come in for games. That played a big part in my decision," Greacen told the Londonderry Sentinel.
"Sometimes it is not always about football and the move to Glentoran suits me and my family best."
Greacen said a number of League of Ireland had been talking to him.
He revealed that the financial situation at Derry City had led to a delay in him being offered new terms by the Candystripes.
