Motherwell's home Scottish Premier League match against Dunfermline has been postponed for safety reasons.

High winds in the North Lanarkshire area have caused structural damage to Fir Park stadium.

Central Scotland is being battered by 90mph gales and forecasters say damage to buildings and disruption to transport can be expected.

The match has been rescheduled for Tuesday 24 January with a 1945 GMT kick-off.

Motherwell chief executive Leeann Dempster said: "We were obviously desperate to get the game on but there has been significant structural damage to the ground.

"That could have posed a risk to supporters so with that in mind, we have agreed with Dunfermline to postpone the fixture and replay it at the earliest opportunity."

No inspection is planned for Celtic Park, where Rangers are the visitors on Wednesday evening. The club expects the weather to improve before the 1945 GMT kick-off.
