Richard Brodie scored twice and was sent off as Fleetwood hammered promotion rivals Southport.
The striker opened the scoring from close range before Jamie Milligan's penalty made it 2-0 after Earl Davis fouled Jamie Vardy.
Brodie scored again from close range before he was dismissed for a second booking in the 32nd minute.
Vardy scored two goals from the edge of the box either side of Andy Mangan's strike from Danny Rose's pass.
Second-placed Fleetwood remain two points behind leaders Wrexham, while Southport now drop to fourth in the Blue Square Bet Premier table.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Southport manager Liam Watson told BBC Radio Merseyside:
"It was one of those horrendous days at the office, but it's only one game.
"Fleetwood were too hot for us to handle and we've got to accept it and move on.
"If we win one and lose one (every two games) between now and the end of the season we'll be in the play-offs."
