Dundee Utd 1-2 Aberdeen

Kari Arnason scored a stunning winner as Aberdeen came from behind to beat Dundee United at Tannadice.

United took an early lead through Jon Daly, who lashed into the net after a weak punch by goalkeeper Jason Brown.

The visitors levelled from an Arnason throw-in, Rory McArdle flicking on for Mohamed Chalali to head home.

Both sides pressed for victory and it was Aberdeen who claimed all three points when Arnason's long distance effort flew past Dusan Pernis.

Ninth-place Aberdeen are now 10 points clear of Scottish Premier League bottom club Dunfermline and only three behind United, who remain sixth.

The Tangerines fielded the same starting line-up for the fourth straight match but there was a place on the bench for new signing Richie Ryan while the Dons welcomed back youngsters Peter Pawlett and Fraser Fyvie.

Johnny Russell's header deflected off Andrew Considine and trickled past the post as United threatened early on.

However, the home crowd were able to celebrate when Brown failed to deal with a cross and John Rankin's shot fell kindly for Daly to score his 14th goal of the season.

Rory Fallon's low drive was held by Pernis as Aberdeen looked for a quick leveller.

A wayward passback by Considine almost gave United their second put Brown managed to clear the ball before it crossed the line.

The hosts then claimed unsuccessfully for a penalty after Considine appeared to have brought down Russell as the striker was well placed to score.

Undeterred, United continued to press and Paul Dixon's free-kick at the start of the second half deflected wide.

Aberdeen sent on McArdle and then Chalali in place of Pawlett and Fallon respectively and the substitutes made an instant impact.

Arnason's throw-in was helped on by the head of McArdle and Chalali used his first touch of the match to nod past Pernis.

The Dons' Milson headed behind from Scott Vernon's cross with the goal gaping before Ryan made his debut as a replacement for Stuart Armstrong.

But Ryan's brief first appearance was overshadowed by Arnason's impressive strike, the midfielder finding the net from over 30 yards.

United had four minutes to find parity but the Dons held firm in the closing stages.
