Bury closed to within four points of the League One play-off places with victory over struggling Walsall.
The hosts opened the scoring through Mat Sadler's own goal, after he deflected in David Amoo's cross.
Adam Chambers should have put Walsall ahead with a header after his first effort was saved but Jamie Paterson soon levelled with a 25-yard free-kick.
Peter Sweeney secured Bury's winner before half-time with a sublime curling free-kick a minute later.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Bury manager Richie Barker told BBC Radio Manchester:
"It certainly wasn't one of our best performances but if you look at the bigger picture, six points out of nine over Christmas, we'd have taken that.
"As much as it wasn't a vintage performance, within 24 hours we'll have forgotten about it and enjoy looking at the league table.
"It's more important bearing in mind we're not playing for two weeks as it would have been a long two weeks had we been looking at 16th or 17th."
