Shrewsbury 1-1 Northampton

Northampton held off Shrewsbury's late onslaught to climb off the bottom of the Football League with a draw.

The Cobblers led when Saido Berahino tapped home from six yards after fellow loanee Akwasi Asante had rounded home goalkeeper Chris Neal.

But Shrewsbury levelled when Matt Richards fired home from 20 yards.

Visiting keeper Shane Higgs kept his side in the game with instinctive saves from Marvin Morgan and Terry Gornell amongst a host of stops.

The promotion-chasing Shrews had won the away game against the Cobblers

Boothroyd hails fighting Cobblers

"I think we're only the third team this season to come away [from Shrewsbury] with anything, which says a lot about how we played.

"In the first half I thought we were the better team - the game plan worked a treat and with better finishing we could have been two or three up.

"This mob are giving their all - and that win is just around the corner."
