QPR captain Joey Barton became a father for the first time just hours after playing in Tuesday's 1-1 draw at Swansea.
After his partner Georgia McNeil gave birth to a son, he shared his news with his 942,000 Twitter followers.
Barton wrote: "He's here Cassius Joseph Barton. 7 pound 3 oz. Mother and baby are fine. Wow what a blessing that is."
QPR chairman Tony Fernandes posted his congratulations, tweeting "Very happy to welcome the new ranger. Great news."
Barton's Loftus Road team-mates Clint Hill and Alejandro Faurlin, and Everton's Phil Neville, also sent their congratulations via the social networking site.
Barton is a known boxing fan and the name for his new son could have been influenced by the legendary former heavyweight champion of the world Muhammad Ali, who was born as Cassius Clay in 1942.
Of Latin origin, the meaning of the name Cassius is often described as "empty, vain, hollow, poor, or robbed".
QPR's next match is on Saturday at Arsenal.
