Midfielder Stuart Campbell has joined North American Soccer League side Tampa Bay Rowdies following his release from Bristol Rovers.

The 34-year-old ex-Pirates captain left the club last week after seven and a half years at the Memorial Stadium.

He made 341 appearances for Rovers, taking temporary charge following Dave Penney's exit last season.

The Rowdies, who play in the second division, are managed by former Luton Town midfielder Ricky Hill.

The Florida-based club were founded in 1975 as a NASL expansion franchise but, following the demise of the league in 1984, they joined the American Indoor Soccer Association and American Soccer League and were managed by former QPR, Manchester City and England striker Rodney Marsh.

The club folded in 1993 but were reinstated 15 years later, first under the guise of FC Tampa Bay before taking on the original title of Tampa Bay Rowdies.
